Between 27/01/2020 and 09/08/2021, the General Administration of Education in Riyadh region received 71 education buildings of 1287 classes for male and female students. According to the Director-General of Education in Riyadh, Mr. Hamad bin Nasser Al-Wahaibi, the education buildings for girls are 46, with 791 classrooms accommodating 23,730 students. While the total number of buildings of boys is 25, with 496 classrooms accommodating 14,880 students with a total cost of more than 735 million riyals. There are also (70) rented buildings are handed over.
The Director-General valued the support of education projects by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and HRH Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman. Their support helps create a suitable educational environment for students and educational and administrative staff in these exceptional circumstances where the School Buildings Department is preparing for the launch of this exceptional academic year. The Department continues its work on supervising, coordinating, following up, and delivering buildings from the implementing parties.
Al-Wahaibi expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education, represented by His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Sheikh, and his follow-up to the early and suitable preparation for the academic year (2021). He also ordered to exert all efforts to guarantee the comfort of students and educational and administrative staff and secure an environment that meets their requirements to move education forward for current and future generations. For a period of one year, the total amount of maintenance contracts for school buildings in the General Administration of Education in the Riyadh region were more than (300) million riyals, including general maintenance of electricity, air conditioners, and cleaning.
The Director-General of Education in the Riyadh region confirmed that the administration, represented by the Buildings Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Tatweer Building Company (TBC), is working hard to maintain and prepare education buildings and facilities in the region, including general maintenance of electricity, air conditioning, and hygiene, aiming for an exceptional study return this year (2021). Al-Wahaibi indicated that the administration received (264,250) items related to precautionary and preventive measures on schools and education buildings in the region, as part of the Ministry of Education's project to secure materials for precautionary measures to prevent COVID-19.
The Director-General of Education in the Riyadh region affirmed the Ministry of Education’s concern for the health of educational staff across the Kingdom in general and the Riyadh region in particular. It is working hard on the project of securing materials for precautionary measures to prevent Covid-19 and its mutations. Riyadh obtained more than a quarter of a million items including (40905) hand sanitizers, (40905) surface sanitizers, (71861) tissue rolls, (106354) hand soap, and (4225) thermometers.
Al-Wahaibi stressed that the precautionary items are being distributed to schools and education buildings, aiming to a safe return of all education staff in the region, including students, teachers, administrators, and supervisors, and to protect them from COVID-19 by asking everyone to observe the commitment to the protocols for return and to ensure handwashing social distancing, social and wearing masks.
