Bashir Al-Enzi, Executive Director of the Procurement Department at Building Development Company (TBC), said that the total number of educational projects awarded is estimated at 2.5 billion riyals. He also noted that these projects are divided into construction projects at 1.5 billion riyals, facilities management at 530 million riyals, consultancy at 420 million riyals, and supplies at 60 million riyals.
And he added, yesterday, Wednesday, during a workshop titled “The Mechanism for Qualifying Contractors with the Building Development Company” and organized by the Asharqia Chamber at its headquarters in Dammam, that the value of the projects “under tender” exceeds one billion and 690 million riyals, distributed over construction projects with a value exceeding 830 million riyals and facilities management with more than 450 million riyals, consulting with more than 30 million riyals, and supplies with more than 380 million riyals, pointing out that the expected projects exceed 3 billion and 260 million riyals distributed among; construction projects with more than 1.2 billion riyals, facilities management with more than 1.9 billion, consultations with more than 45 million riyals and supplies more than 115 million riyals.
Al-Enzi pointed out that the eligible companies numbered 1930, distributed over 589 supply companies, 334 management companies, 336 consulting companies, and 671 contracting companies. Pointing out that: the total number of companies eligible for the current year 2022 amounted to 578 companies distributed over 85 companies in January, 60 companies in February, 85 companies in March, 48 in April, 77 in May, 74 in June, 91 in July, 24 in August, and 25 in September.
He stressed that: encouraging the participation of the private sector in the implementation and operation of schools will ensure the burden transfer of capital expenditures from the government to the private sector, adding: "This process of partnership between the public and private sectors towards building schools is the first social infrastructure project in the Kingdom, as it started an executive program for the partnership with the private sector to provide high-quality infrastructure in all schools in an attractive environment, according to the latest designs that provide enough spaces for various activities.
The Executive Director of the Procurement Department at the Building Development Company has indicated that TBC was launched as a government company with limited liability in early 2013 (affiliated with the Public Investment Fund)to work on commercial foundations specialized in project management.
Furthermore, he added that the company has sought, since its inception, to contribute to the education environment's development and add a qualitative leap at the level of education projects in the Kingdom in terms of; its world-class designs, high-quality construction method, distinguished equipment, and many advanced facilities that provide the finest methods of education to achieve wise leadership's ambition and the aspirations of citizens in the various regions and governorates of the Kingdom.
He stated that; TBC undertakes the projects of school and educational buildings and administrative facilities of the Ministry of Education and works on offering and awarding its competitions according to its system. In addition to providing buildings, signing contracts, and supervising them, including engineering and operational works, maintenance, and development which helps the Ministry of Education to focus on implementing its main activities indicating TBC is implementing and managing several programs of the Ministry of Education that contain 628 educational facilities, serving more than 289,000 students, all over the Kingdom.
Al-Enzi explained that the company’s activity includes the design management, construction, and implementation of educational buildings and their supporting facilities, supervising them, and providing all services. Starting from advisory, administrative, and planning services through maintenance, rehabilitation, equipping, and furnishing. He also pointed out that; TBC is working on several initiatives for developing special education programs and programs for Early childhood, school safety improvements, and developing girls’ gyms under the Quality of Life initiative.
